MASO joins the world today in commemorating the World Day Against Child Labour. This year's theme is: "Progress is clear, but there is still much more to do."
Child labour remains a critical concern in migration-affected communities across Malawi. As MASO's research in Chitipa and Karonga districts has shown, economic migration creates conditions where children are particularly vulnerable to exploitation, trafficking and forced labour.
MASO's Commitment
Migration and Society (MASO) remains committed to advocating for the rights of children in migration-affected communities. Our research highlights the link between labour migration, household economic fragility and child labour — and we work with communities to break this cycle through education support, economic empowerment and awareness campaigns.
On this World Day Against Child Labour, we call on all stakeholders — government, civil society, international organisations and communities — to redouble efforts to eliminate child labour, particularly in the context of migration.
